It’s the Law

Workplace safety laws are prevalent in Canadian Provinces. In December 2009, the Ontario Government passed Bill 168 to address Workplace Violence and Harassment. This bill was put into effect after several workers across Ontario were killed or severely injured as a result of workplace violence.

The new law states that Employers must put the following measures and procedures in place to ensure the safety of their workers:

Bill 168 32.0.2

(1) An employer shall develop and maintain a program to implement the policy with respect to workplace violence required under clause 32.0.1 (1) (a).

(2) Without limiting the generality of subsection (1), the program shall,

a) include measures and procedures to control the risks identified in the assessment required under 32.0.3 (1) as likely to expose a worker physical injury;

b) include measures and procedures for summoning assistance when workplace violence occurs or is likely to occur;

c) include measures and procedures for workers to report incidents of workplace violence to the employer or supervisor;

d) set out how the employer will investigate and deal with incidents or complaints of workplace violence; and

e) include any prescribed elements.

Watchdog One directly addresses and helps enforce this bill

a) Watchdog One can help control the risk for lone workers: The worker’s exact location is tracked by the system, and if a situation arises, their location is known and assistance can be sent quickly.

b) Watchdog One is a discreet device that allows a worker to summon immediate assistance without the knowledge of their assailant. The system is mobile and works whether you’re on your employer’s premises or not.

c) The Watchdog One device and backend systems record high quality audio of entire incidents, so if an incident occurs, the employee has clear evidence of what happened and can report it confidently. Our operators will also inform emergency services and the employer if an incident takes place.

d) With a high quality audio record, a focused investigation can be carried out expeditiously.
